Kijk bijv. op (van Islam-Q&A): Menstruating women entering the mosque to listen to a khutbah Menstruating women entering rooms attached to the mosque Wa salaam, Abu Henk |

Daar is toch niets mis mee.

Question:
Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to recite the duaas of the Day of Arafaah despite the fact that they include aayaat from the Quraan? Answer: There is nothing wrong with the woman who is menstruating or bleeding after childbirth reciting duaas that are prescribed for the rituals of Hajj. Also, according to the correct opinion, there is nothing wrong with them reading Quraan as well, because there is no clear saheeh report that states that the woman who is menstruating or bleeding after childbirth should not read Quraan. It was reported that the man who is junub (in a state of impurity following sexual activity), in particular, should not read Quraan whilst he is junub, because of the hadeeth of Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him). With regard to the woman who is menstruating or bleeding after childbirth there is the hadeeth of Ibn Umar: "The menstruating woman and the man who is junub should not read Quraan" but it is daeef (weak), because the hadeeth was reported by Ismaaeel ibn Ayyaash from the Hijaaziyeen, and he is daeef in his reports from them. But she should read without touching the Mus-haf (copy of the Quraan in Arabic), from memory. In the case of the man who is junub, he should not recite Quran at all, either from memory or from the Mus-haf, until he has done ghusl. The difference between them is that the timespan for the one who is junub is very short, he can do ghusl straightaway, as soon as he finished having intercourse with his wife. He is not junub for long, and it is up to him when he wants to do ghusl; if he cannot find water, he can do tayammum ("dry ablution" using dust etc.) and pray and read Quraan. But the woman who is menstruating or bleeding after childbirth has no control over her situation it rests with Allaah, may He be glorified. The period lasts for a number of days and nifaas (post-natal bleeding) is the same. So it is permissible for them to recite Quraan so that they do not forget it and so that they do not miss out on the blessings of reciting Quraan and learning the rules of shareeah from the Book of Allaah. If that is the case, then it should certainly be permissible for them to read books containing duaas that are a mixture of aayaat and ahaadeeth, etc this is the more correct of the two opinions of the scholars, may Allaah have mercy on them. [1] Question: I read some Tafseers (Quranic commentaries) when I am not taahir (ritually pure), such as during my monthly period. Is there any sin on me for doing that? Will I be committing a sin if I do that? Answer: There is no sin on the woman who is menstruating or bleeding after childbirth if she reads books of Tafseer or even if she reads Quraan without touching the Mus-haf, according to the more correct of the two scholarly opinions. As for the man who is junub, he should not read Quraan at all until he has done ghusl, but he can read books of Tafseer and hadeeth etc., without reading whatever they contain of aayaat, because of the report that nothing would stop the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) from reading Quraan except janaabah (being junub). According to a hadeeth narrated by Imaam Ahmad with a jayyid isnaad, he said: "As for the man who is junub, he should not read even one aayah." Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to recite the Qur.aan and books of supplications? Question: Is it allowed for a menstruating woman to read a book of supplications on the Day of 'Arafah, given the fact that the book contains Qur.aanic verses? Response: There is no harm in a menstruating or post-partum bleeding woman reading the books of supplications that are written for the rites of the pilgrimage. In fact, there is nothing wrong with her reciting the Qur.aan according to the correct opinion. There is no authentic, clear text prohibiting a menstruating or post-partum bleeding woman from reciting the Qur.aan. The thing that is narrated is concerned with the sexually defiled person only, as such should not recite the Qur.aan while he is sexually defiled. This is based on the hadeeth of 'Alee. As for the menstruating or post-partum bleeding woman, there is the hadeeth of Ibn Umar which states, "Neither the menstruating woman nor the sexually defiled person is to recite anything from the Qur.aan." However, this is weak. This is because it is from the narrations of Ismaa'eel ibn Iyyash on the authority of people from the Hijaaz and he is weak when he narrates from them. However, she may recite from her memory without touching the Qur.aan. As for the sexually defiled person, he/she may not even recite the Qur.aan from memory or touch the mushaf until he/she makes ghusl. The difference between the two is that the amount of time one is sexually defiled is very short as he may make ghusl as soon as he has done the act with his spouse. The amount of time is not long and he is in control of its length as he may make ghusl whenever he wishes. Even if he cannot find water, he can make tayammum and pray or recite the Qur.aan. However, the menstruating or post-partum bleeding woman does not have control over their lengths, such control is in the hand of Allaah. Menstruation and post-partum bleeding take days. Therefore, it is allowed for them to recite the Qur.aan so that they do not forget what they have memorized and so they will not lose the merits of reciting it. It is also so they may learn the laws of the Shareeah from the Book of Allaah. Therefore it is even more so permissible for her to read the books of supplications that have verses and hadeeth intermixed with them. This is the correct view and is the correct opinion of the scholars- may Allaah have mercy on them- on that point. Shaykh Ibn Baaz |
