DEAR MR PRESIDENT

Dear Mr President,
I wish I could make you see
those papers you sign in your oval office
the policies you say will protect the country
they have an effect on me.

I wish I could take you into the battlefields
And show you the mother who cries over her child's cold body.

I wish I could show you
that the people 'in your way'
feel pain when war tears their homeland apart.

I wish I could put you
in their place for a day
to make you live in poverty and dirt
and go to bed hungry every night.

I know you've got a 'responsibility'
to see if there are WMDs, and to
protect the rest of the world.

For God and for America, you say.
But before you make another speech
saying how right you are
and how you're going to tear another country apart

I wish you'd come here yourself
to fight the war you ordered should be fought
and to live the life you make us live
to let your children starve as soldiers eat kingly meals

We're not with you or against you
there is a middle ground--we're stuck in it,
we're not against you--we just wonder if under all those smarts
You still might be hiding a human heart.
